Plasticville HO Boxes

Type 1 -- 1952 through 1954

The "Double Diamond" box had the word "HO" in black diamonds in the upper left and right hand corners and the words "Plasticville, USA @" in a black background along the bottom. This is the first box style used for Plasticville HO and contained just a drawing of the item. These boxes used only a few colors in printing. There were no prices on the box, and the item description is found in red letters between the two black diamonds. The part number of the item starts with "HO-" and is found on the side of the box. Laer boxes contained the suggested retail price on the side. These boxes had inserts or liners to protect the pieces.

Type 2A -- 1955 through 1956

The "Single Diamond" box was the second type of Plasticville HO box and contained a smaller "HO" in the black diamond in the upper right corner. The colors were more detailed and the box contained a scenic view of a railroad scene. "The Original Plastic Village" is now found in the lower right corner The item description and part number, starting with "HO-" are foumd in the shield border in lower left corner The suggested retail price is found on the end of the box. Small pieces were found in cellophane envelopes, while the bigger pieces were loose in the box.

Type 2B -- 1957-1958

The "Single Diamond" box was the second type of Plasticville HO box and contained a smaller "HO" in the black diamond in the upper right corner. The colors were more detailed and the box contained a scenic view of a railroad scene. "The Original Plastic Village" is now found in the lower right corner The item description and part number, including the new 4-digit part numbers, are found in the shield border in lower left corner The suggested retail price is found on the end of the box. Small pieces were found in cellophane envelopes, while the bigger pieces were loose in the box.

Type 3 -- 1959 through 1965

The "Scenic Litho" boxes have.....Boxes have scenic litho of item "HO scale" in oval in lower left hand corner The "USA" is now in a shield Still touts "Exclusive Snap Fit!" Small pieces were found in cellophane envelopes, while the bigger pieces were loose in the box.

Type 4 -- 1966 through 1975

The "Wood Frame" boxes have a picture frame effect with the item's description and part number on a plaque on the bottom center of the frame. A blue ribbon touting "The Original Plastic Village, "Snap Fit" and "No Glue" is found on the left hand side. A color picture of the actual item in a rail road or community area is displayed within the wood frame. A plastic bag was used to hold the pieces.

The suggest list prices were removed from this style box late in its production run; these suggested list prices would never appear on a Plasticville box again.

Type 5 -- 1976 through 1979

The "Gold Border" boxes have a gold border around the perimeter. The "Plasticville USA" shield is found in the lower corner in very patriotic Red, White and Blue. This makes sense given this box was introduced in 1976. This box was only used for a few years. A plastic bag was used to hold the pieces.

Type 6 -- 1980 through 2003

The "Orange Banner" boxes were introduced in 1980 and to the best of our knowledge are still being used today for the standard HO Plasticville line. A plastic bag was used to hold the pieces.

The "Silver Series" boxes with no description

Type 8 -- 1997 through 2003
